Intro to Photovoltaics


This 2-day entry-level workshop will provide the basic concepts of solar whether your plan is to enter the ever growing solar industry, advance a career, or simply learn what the solar buzz is all about.

This course provides a solid foundation for the intermediate level of PV training and certification in our five-day PV200: PV Design and Installation Intensive course.

The format for this class will be lecture, discussion and some hands-on.

  • Basics of electricity
  • The nuts and bolts of solar components
  • Simple ways to save money by improving energy efficiency
  • Determining ideal system size based on equipment costs, incentives/rebates, and grid utility rates

Instructor

Solar instructor Erik FryeA veteran of solar-powered living since 1991, Erik Frye promotes the widespread adoption of renewable energy to everyone who shows interest in the subject. He designs and sells on-grid and off-grid photovoltaic systems at Real Goods in Hopland, California, as well as solar thermal and off-grid wind and hydro. Erik troubleshoots, repairs, and installs off grid systems throughout the counties of Mendocino, Sonoma, Lake, Napa, and Shasta.
