Dick (Paco) Jordan
I’ve been living off grid with a solar powered electrical system since 1975. I began by working on my own system. In 1980 I became a licensed building contractor. I began to lead off grid solar design classes at weekend and week long seminars before grid inter-tie solar systems were permitted in the US. We discussed all aspects of rural, independent living including producing one's own power through stand alone solar and micro-hydro power electrical systems. I’ve designed and installed grid inter-tie systems that qualified for rebates under the CA State rebate program currently called CSI. As such I am listed as one of California’s certified and qualified contractors. My projects have included off grid residential systems using only a few solar panels to grid inter-tie systems with more than 100. I've also backed up solar systems up with auto and manual start generators, wind and micro-hydro power units.
Over the years I’ve installed many different manufacturers’ equipment and of course have settled upon my favorites. As the solar industry grows I stay current with new advancements, updated technology and code requirements. I am happy to be able to say my experience in the field is extensive and my reputation solid. I'm hired as a consultant to design new systems and to update and improve existing ones.
Finally, I’ve been hired to oversee and train on site crews for contractors newly entering the field and helped train a crew that was installing a 140 kW system at the Apasco Cement production facility in Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico. I’ve presented trainings in Mexico, Panama, Nicaragua and Venezuela and volunteered to install solar systems at both a medical clinic and an orphanage in Nicaragua.
My Mom calls me Dick. Most others refer to me as Paco. I welcome you to the Solar Living Institute training and look forward to our week together.
